FAQs

What we are asked the most…

All the time, we get pupils call us with their driving related questions, so we thought we would answer some of our most frequently asked questions here! Can’t seem to find the answer to a question you have? You can give us a call, or you can send us an email.

What will I need to have for my driving lessons?

To start your driving lessons, you need to be 17 years old and have a provisional driving license. You can obtain a provisional license by going to the GOV.UK website and filling out an online application, or you can get a D1 form from your local post office and apply for one through that method. It can take up to 2 weeks for a provisional driving license to reach you after you apply.

What do I bring to my first driving lesson?

You should bring your provisional license (photo card). If you have any driving experience already, you should bring any notes or progress reports you have. You should wear shoes that have a thin sole, as this helps with the clutch control which requires some sensitivity. If you wear glasses please bring these also.

What will I do in the first lesson?

If you’re a beginner, on your first lesson your instructor will take some notes from your provisional license and get to know you as a person and establish your driving goals. The instructor will drive you to a quiet location, whilst giving you a commentary drive. When you get to a suitable location, you’ll swap seats with the instructor and learn all the controls of the vehicle. Then, you will be taught how to move off and drive the car! Once the lesson is over, the instructor will drive you back to your home and rebook you in for your next lesson.

How many driving lessons will I need to do?

Everyone is different and needs a different amount of lessons to get passed. On average, it takes our pupils 26 hours to pass. Which is a fraction of the 67 hour national average.

If you would like a better indication of how many lessons you will need, our assessment lesson would be perfect for you.

What will I be driving?

We have different vehicles to choose from, all are dual controlled, modern and small – Meaning you get the best learning experience possible. To check out our current learning vehicles near you, give us a call!

When can I book a driving test?

Both the theory test and driving test need to be booked online. To book the test you’ll need your provisional license details and an email address you can use to log into the booking system. The booking process is very simple and quick. We would recommend only ever using the GOV.UK website to book your tests.

Can I use my driving instructor's car for my test?

Yes, as long as the instructor thinks you’re ready for your test, you can use the car you learned in. If you would prefer, you can also use your own vehicle if you have one.
